Planning Notes – Girl Scout Retreat
Port Lavaca Area Council – April 26 –
27, 2002
Location: First United Methodist Church, Point Comfort, TX
(across the bridge from Port Lavaca)
Address to be faxed to Louise by Terry Blevins. Will need to use on-line maps. Point Comfort is at the junction of Farm Road 1593 and State Highway 35, two miles east of port Lavaca across Lavaca Bay in Calhoun County. In 1990 the population was 956, so if you can find Point Comfort, just ask somebody where the Methodist Church is.
Large group activities will take place in the fellowship hall.
Small group activities will take place in smaller rooms.
YARPs will have their own room for meeting/sleeping.
Time: 6:00 p.m. (earlier, if possible) YARPs meet.
7:00 p.m. Scouts arrive; senior high girls take over meeting/greeting/games.
7:30 p.m. YARPs take over programming.
Use same approximate schedule as before. (See second attachment.)
May need shorter amount of “Big Girl” time, say 45 minutes, instead of 2 hours.
(I am off on April 26 and can go
the church that afternoon. I’ll
assign small group rooms, put up signs, etc. – providing I can get into
the church. If anyone else is
available to go early, let me know.)
Numbers: 60 max. , I’m told.
We will not have pre-registration numbers until April 25th (the day before).
They will allow on-site registration, so numbers will change on Friday night.
Plan on the same age spread as before: Kindergarten through high school.
Depending on registration numbers, the groups will be divided as follows:
Kinder – 1st – 2nd
3rd – 4th – 5th
6th – 7th – 8th
High School scouts will be helpers.
Big Girl Time will be for 7th through high school.
